We are excited to host our first ever community film night! This is something we’ve talked about doing for over a year, we just needed to partner with a venue.
In collaboration with the Aladdin Theater, bloom club will be hosting this *FREE* community space for folks to learn more about the histories of Black diasporic culinary excellence that shaped food landscapes across what is now called the United States. We’ll be screening the first two episodes of the Netflix series, High on the Hog, with a 15-20 minute intermission in between episodes.
Accessibility:
Captions will be turned on for the episode screenings.
The Aladdin Theater has ADA acess and seating.
Do you have an access need? Email us! brooklynbloomclub@gmail.com
> Doors open at 5:30 PM showings start at 6:00 PM <
More details to come soon! Learn more about the series.
Getting there: By bus the 19 travels along SE Milwaukie and the max station located at SE Milwaukie and 11th/12th is a 5-15 minute walk or roll depending on your pace.
Previously we were planning on celebrating Earth Week and learning about the different ways in which Indigenous communities are reclaiming foodways and cultivating care through food sovereignty by watching the film, Gather. However the First Nations Development Institute will be screening Gather at the Aladdin in May! We hope you can attend :) Learn more about Gather.
